BLUE MEMORIES

2025

The exhibition Blue Memories is the result of a 3-month residency in Porsgrunn, Norway. In 2024, I had the luxury of being able to spend a period as a the Porcelain Grant holder in Porsgrund's Porcelain Factory, completely without restrictions. While trying to renew the craft, I also wanted to test the material's limits of what is possible to do in a non plastic industrial porcelain clay, and see how large and fragile I can work without collapsing.

Next to the workshop was an antique dealer with rows of boxes marked “ 10 kr for everything!”, filled with objects. Starting from these pieces, those which the antique dealer had labeled as trinkets and wortless, large organic porcelain flowers emerged; decorations from cups and plates which have been allowed ro swell in the room into bodily forms, inspired by Georgie O’Keeffe. Flirting, chained Wally dogs and dead porcelain swans in dialouge with the men’s great Renaissance paintings.

The meeting between textile and ceramics is irrational and full of resistance. I embroider on porcelain with cotton thread in an attempt to recontextualize the crafts. During my time in Porsgrunn, I started waving with porcelain based in abstracted crochet patterns, the image frame becomes a freedom within a tight framework. By combining textile traditions with decorative porcelain with my contemporary ceramics, I want to make an attempt to highlight all the precious and impressive craft objects that are often left behind within the walls of the domestic space, continuing ti challenge the hierarchies in the field and make traditional female craft visable.
